  • Christmas Carols

Christmas is almost here and we’ve been busy decorating the tree, making a gingerbread house, and singing some Christmas carols for the elderly citizens in a nearby senior home. Below are pictures taken during our visit to the senior center.

    Nicolas enjoyed chatting with James.

Gwynnie got a big hug from a super enthusiastic old lady.

A picture of our carolers and, below, a video taken during their performance.

In addition to singing Christmas carols, the kids gave each person a little gift . It was a shower cap tucked inside a little toilet paper roll elf.

Here are some of the elves. Aren’t they cute?

I got the idea to make these elves from this website.

The kids also spent some time decorating lunch bags that were used to wrap the gifts. The lunch bags were also adorable.

The best part of our visit was the feeling of joy that we all shared… and seeing the smile in their elderly faces…

Isn’t that what the Christmas Spirit is all about?

  • Pumpkins, pumpkins…

Time is going by so fast and we’ve been so busy… homeschooling, karate, acting class, robotics, tennis, gymnastics… quite a lot of activities…  No wonder it has been a while since I last posted on this blog. Certainly, I have a lot to share, and I plan on doing it this coming week. Right now, I’d just like to post some cute pictures we took on our trip to the pumpkin patch. We go there every year in the last week of October. This is already a tradition. The kids love to run around among the thousands of pumpkins … They also love walking on the corn maze and going to the petting zoo.

Usually, they wear their Halloween costume. This year, Nick decided he wanted to be a black ninja. Dani couldn’t make up her mind, and so she wasn’t wearing any costume (later she decided to be a ballerina.)

It turned out our “black ninja” wasn’t that good at pushing the wheelbarrow…

Almost at the end of our field trip, they paused for a picture in front of the corn maze. Notice Dani is wearing her Havaianas flip-flops, her favorite sandals. Now that the weather is much cooler, I hide the flip-flops so she has to choose between wearing sneakers or one of her many pairs of (mostly) hand-me-down boots.

  • Brazil’s Independence Day

September 7th was Brazil’s independence day and we celebrated by coloring the Brazilian flag and watching videos of the independence day celebrations in Brazil. We also watched a music clip with the “Esquadrilha da Fumaça,” a famous brazilian aerial squad, on You Tube.

Below is the colored rice in the colors of the Brazilian flag…

And the kids coloring the flag with the rice.

Nick loves Brazilian music, and so we watched this music clip many times.

That was it for a little taste of Brazil on Independence day.
