The first time I heard about the Montessori method was about 20 years ago. A montessori school opened one block from my house. I happened to stop by one day, and I was impressed by the beauty of the classroom and by the fact that everything was scaled down to a child’s size. A few years later, my sister enrolled my nephew in that same school and I rejoiced watching him move around the room, freely exploring the materials that were on the shelves. Many years later, I ended up enrolling my son in a montessori school.
Now that I’m homeschooling, I’ve been learning a lot more about the Montessori method. I’ve been reading Montessori books, following montessori blogs, and watching videos about the method. I have also studied a few Montessori albums published online as well as the albums I received as a gift from a friend of mine who is a trained montessori teacher.
Interesting enough, the more I learn about the Montessori method, the more I like it, and, as you read this blog, you’ll find out why.
In case you’d like to learn more about Montessori yourself, I’m publishing below a list of some of my favorite sites.
